I often get asked, what books to read to gain a feeling of (fill in the blank) happiness, contentment, motivation, drive, success, love, enough, worthy, etc.
This may not be what you expect and might shock you but no book can make anyone feel any sort of way, good or bad. That's an illusion. Your imagination certainly can create thoughts that then are felt by the level of consciousness you are in and that creates that sense of feeling any sort of way.
Society often conditions us to believe that our feelings stem from external sources, when in reality, true wellbeing and happiness come from recognizing and nurturing the emotions that already reside within us. You have the power, the ability, and the free will to feel any way you want, any time of day.
When we rely on external factors for our emotions, it can lead to a sense of neediness and a constant cycle of seeking validation and fulfillment from outside sources.
This can create a never-ending cycle of searching and striving for things to make us feel okay, ultimately resulting in what I described as suffering. A life full of helplessness.
The feeling of peace and contentment that you seek is already inside you, waiting to be acknowledged and embraced.
It is often clouded by habitual thinking, layers and layers of thoughts, judgments, and stories that you accumulate over time. By looking inward, slowing down and connecting with your inner self, you can tap into the limitless reservoir of emotions that are always present within you. Instead of seeking externally for what you want, find true comfort and contentment by recognizing the power of your own emotions and learning to cultivate a sense of inner peace.
Peace of mind is often what most people want.
Peace of mind is a feeling, feelings come from your dominate thoughts.
Certainly, peace of mind is subjective and everyone expresses it in their own unique descriptive words. The ultimate goal is seeking harmony and balance through thoughts and emotions, which won't be found in a book. Books are often the processes that worked for someone else, and us funny humans will read it with our logical mind and grasp the concepts, but our ego will validate and look for proof for how it won't work for us.
Rarely do I see people following through with the advice and suggestions of other people. What I do see that works is when there's a deep understanding of how one's own mind works, combined with a great importance placed on wanting to change their experience in life, usually following a lot of mental and emotional pain with the support of someone that can help them on their journey of self-discovery (like me, a life coach). The results not only are profound, they become a new way of being, new habits of thought are created and last.
While books can offer guidance and insights into achieving peace of mind, the true journey towards inner peace cannot be found within the pages of a book.
We funny little humans tend to approach other people's teachings with our logical minds, trying to grasp the concepts and apply them to our own lives. Yet, our ego often gets in the way, and off to the races our brain will come up with all sorts of excuses and proof that these methods won't work for us.
It is important to remember that true peace of mind is a deeply personal journey that requires self-reflection, introspection, and a willingness to let go of our old outdated preconceived notions and beliefs (stories).
Suffering occurs when you believe you have no control over how you experience life. Life itself is actually quite simple, but it is our thoughts that make it seem complicated. When you change your thoughts, the world around you changes.
We experience each moment via our thoughts, so doesn't it make sense to learn to train your brain and thoughts to work for you rather than against you? This isn't found in a book; this is found by understanding how your unique brain works in your own life, commanding your thoughts to be in alignment with how you want to feel and shifting the habit of thought from disempowering to empowering.
